my laptop will not see my battery
i was using my laptop unplugged running off the battery power the other day and it suddenly cut off. it had plenty of charge left probably at least 50%. i plugged it up to the dc power and it works fine. i can hit function>f5 to check battery power on this laptop, but when i do it says battery>NON. it doesnt see the battery nor will it charge the battery.
so i took the battery out. it has a charge meter with leds on it. i push the button and the low charge button just flashes yellow. i checked the output on the motherboard with my multimeter and it puts out just over 3 volts on one terminal, but i cant find any specs on it. even checked the battery with my meter and it puts out voltage. the laptop is a gateway mx6214. battery type is 6 cell lithium ion. OS is xp sp2 home edition. gateway doesnt have anything on batteries in tech support...except how to calibrate them. i doubt thats it. my guess is the battery is just bad and ill have to replace it. unless this is some kind of firmware problem. anyone have a better idea whats going on? |
