Toshiba Satellite = Blank Screen at Bootup
So my girlfriend owns this Satellite P105-S997 laptop from Toshiba; a piece of worldly junk. However, she needs it for school and the occasional video game. She dropped by before work and asked me to fix it for her, if I could. So, I take it upstairs and begin browsing forums across the globe for perhaps some answer to my love's plight.
Well, nothing. I attempted the usual "Remove battery, hold down power button, put battery back in, and voila!" - that didn't work for me, unfortunately. I tried removing a stick of RAM in case that was bad, but nothing. I also tried plugging it into an external monitor, and got some curious results. Both CRT monitors I plugged it into displayed the boot screen, but it had lines running down the screen - funky dotted orange lines. Once it got passed the Windows XP startup screen, nothing. Black screen, yet again. Interestingly enough, it doesn't like it when I plug in HD Monitors. Ideas? |

Re: Toshiba Satellite = Blank Screen at Bootup
Please answer:
1. Does it work with a regular PC monitor? If there are problems, what are they? 2. Can it boot and show BIOS settings at least? 3. How does it behave if you boot into Windows?

Re: Toshiba Satellite = Blank Screen at Bootup
I did say those things:
Quote:
1. It only shows the BIOS boot and Windows Startup screen when plugged into an external PC monitor. After the Windows XP boot, nothing. 2. See above. 3. See above. |

Re: Toshiba Satellite = Blank Screen at Bootup
Run HDD diagnostics (see HDD Diags link on my sig). Get the CD based diagnostic utility (ISO) and burn the image into a blank CD so you can run the HDD test without having to install or boot into Windows.

Re: Toshiba Satellite = Blank Screen at Bootup
Try Hitachi DFT instead.
