safe mode and password issue
Hello everyone,
A few months or so ago, you guys helped me so much with a computer problem - and I greatly appreciate it. I was hoping I could bother you again with another issue. My sister owns a Toshiba laptop. Her anti-virus security (I guess you would call it) is Norton. The system is Windows XP (whatever the newest one is). Anyway, she recently got rid of a bunch of viruses, if that is important. Yesterday she ran a virus check, and Norton said that in order for everything to take affect, the computer would have to be restarted. So she allowed the restart to occur. Now what happens is the following: the computer starts up in "safe mode" (it says so in white letters against a black background at the top in her screen). Then it asks for her windows log in password after doing the whole "alt shift delete" thing. So she puts her password in, and it still will not allow her to sign in...even though it is, without a doubt, the correct password. I'm assuming a virus has screwed things up ... is there a way for her to get around this? Some sort of loophole to bypass the password error? And what about this Safe Mode business? She did not put her compu in safe mode before restarting. Any clarity would be so appreciated. :) Thank you so much. Sincerely, Jane |

Re: safe mode and password issue
Hi Jane,
As per forum rules, we cannot give advise on how to bypass passwords. You may need to contact Microsoft for further assistance. If this is an effect of a virus, I suggest you just save your files by removing the HDD and slave it in another computer so you can get your files out. Once done, just do a reinstall of the system.
