Idea Advent 7109b No Charge dead battery

Can anybody help me, I have an Advent 7109B.
As soon as I disconnect the power supply it switches off.

I have tried two different batteries and a new power supply to no avail.

I read on an ealier post that if I flash the BIOS this should remidy the fault, so I downloaded a file from http://www.uniwill.com/UserDownload/l51ii/l51ii.php
When I try to install it I get the command prompt and an error message telling me I can't load this while emm386 is active, so now i'm trying to create a bootable cd that disables this.
Any ideas???

As for the message, may be you need to remove the lines in config.sys or in autoexec.bat

Code:
DEVICE=HIMEM.SYS
DOS=HIGH

Laugh Re: Advent 7109b No Charge dead battery

I'm not sure if the answer is to update the bios now as I checked it with www.biosupdate and that says I have the latest update after sending details to their tech dept.
Any other ideas on why it wouldn't charge? I'm ready with the screwdriver to check connections etc.
Thanks

Re: Advent 7109b No Charge dead battery

Is your adapter providing exact power (volts and amps) to the laptop? Have you tested the batteries with other similar advent models? If batteries and adapter have been ruled out, you may have a problem with the contacts or the motherboard of the laptop.
