acer Aspire L310 desktop make with labtop parts
Hello gurus!! I hope someone can fix this.
I was getting a "power calibration" error when trying to write to a cd using my disc drive. After trying different software and different discs I came to the conclusion that it was dirty or the lense was dirty as suggested in posts that I've read while researching the error. So I took it apart and blew it out the best I could without dismantling the actual disk drive itself. I just took the computer apart so I could better access the drive. While I was doing this the thin wide cable, (I think its called an IDE cable or something) came loose from the board. It had to have been loose already because I didn't tug on it the slightest bit. I stuck it back in the little slot that looked like it held the cable. It sits in there loosely. I turned on the computer and now I have no D drive which is my cd/dvd drive. I figured I put the IDE cable in backwards so I switched it and then there was no power to the drive because it wasn't even accepting or ejecting discs. So I turned it back around and the power is back but still no drive on the computer. The Device Manager doesn't list a cd/dvd drive like it did prior to this and the bios isn't listing one either. I just have the one hard drive listed as master and the other three are listed as "none". I checked the manufacturers site for drivers but no cd/dvd driver. I downloaded the bios and tried to update or reinstall that but I get the following errors>> "FHW Rom is write protected" "maybe hardware protected" and something like "please make sure lockout jumpers is set to correct or not" I don't think these are exact but it is something along those lines. My computer is an Acer Aspire L310 desktop with windows xp home edition. The cd/dvd drive is of course built in. I have no idea what brand the actual cd drive/writer is. I think its a matarox or maxtor something if I remember correctly from seeing it listed in the device manager and bios before all this happened. I've tried all kinds of cds and dvd roms and start up discs and even the windows xp home edition installation disc to try to get a reaction from the computer but nothing. I have also tried all registry fixes. I would very much appreciate any help with this. Thanks. |

Re: acer Aspire L310 desktop make with labtop parts
try a new ide cable on the drive
they are keyed to go in one way you will have to take the drive out and check the pins on the back forcing it in the wrong way you have probably bent one of the pins you will need to be careful straightening it that you don't break it off i use long nosed pliers
