Dell (Inspiron 9300) Laptop LCD Problem
Hello, this is my first post here, i am a tech guy myself and i am stumped for once on something.
I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop with a 17" screen witch started to have lines on it. 1. I plugged it into an external LCD and it worked just fine. 2. I ordered a new LCD from ebay, i had to clip the LCD cable hinges to fit the new screen. (http://www.yall.net/Laptop-LCD-Scree...connector.html) 3. Once i plugged everything in, the screen would not turn on, neither would the old one. 4. Bought an LCD cable and inverter and i still can not get neither the old screen nor the new one to turn on. It works just fine with a external monitor. I have tried hitting Function and CRT/LCD button on the keyboard as well. So i have 2 screens, 2 LCD cables (one clipped), 2 inverters. Nothing seems to work. On board video works with a monitor. I am out of options so i need some help. |

Re: Dell (Inspiron 9300) Laptop LCD Problem
Is it possible that you may have damaged something while replacing the lcd? Other then that, the only other possible explanation is a short or a bad part.

Yeah i am keeping that in mind, but it is so strange. I am pretty careful when swapping the screen, i really doubt i damaged it, I've changed many screen before and never had a problem like this.

When you bought the LCD you should have gotten the inverter that goes with the screen. I believe that is where you may have gone wrong.

I've seen this type of thing with DELL 's before ! Normally it would be proper procedeure to install the new screen with the laptops power off.But on Dell's,I have noticed on many models ,that you have to turn on the laptops power and then plug in the LCD's cable in order for the screen to work. Weird ,but true in some cases.

Yeah, I certainly agree that it's strange.
But the little known truth is that computer and electronics companies many times will resort to tricks like that to prevent or discourage you from trying to repair the equipment. That way they protect their service business. I've seen chips with phoney part numbers stamped on them, part numbers sanded off, etc. The engineers may have decided to go that route ( your screen problem). Re: Dell (Inspiron 9300) Laptop LCD Problem
no one has ever had to install a screen with the power on before in previous threads
it's not something i would advise go with replacing the inverter as suggested earlier,it's not like they are expensive
