Badly Need Help

Hello,
Recently my bedroom laptop has been acting up, not opening control panel, disabling sound control HD and other things but just today the disk drive literally fell apart, the rails came away and the tape connector disconnected and now my laptop won't turn on at all or charge and it has all my videos on it and I don't have the money to replace it.

Any help would be appreciated to retreive the files or start up the computer.

Was the laptop dropped? How did the CD/DVD drive come apart? Assuming this is already a dead laptop (but HDD still works), try to remove the hard drive and slave it in another computer. From there try to access the drive and move all your important files out.

How would I go about putting the HDD into another system, all I have right now is a desktop with XP and it s a good few years old. What would I need?

The CD drive was bumped and started to become stiff and unmovable, after that it just fell apart.

May be you need IDE/SATA/USB adapter cable so you can hook your IDE/SATA drive to a USB port in your desktop PC.

Buy yourself a hard drive enclosure which you can put in your hard drive and connect to the usb port on you desktop and access the drive. You simply need to know if the hard drive is a PATA drive or a SATA drive. Look here.
