Dell Inspiron 8600 LCD Not lighting

my Dell 8600 LCD started showing a red tint a couple of weeks ago and now will not light up at all. It will flash on red tinted start up screen on start up but will then go off. The LCD is still working and an external monitor is working.

Is this the inverter or the CCFL. I know the inverter is relatively easy to replace and the CCFL is not. Before I purchase either the Inverter or a new LCD, please help me determine the real need.

Thanks

If you shine a flash light across the screen sideways can you see the desktop when it's on of course, Also have you hooked an external monitor to it?

Re: Dell Inspiron 8600 LCD Not lighting

If you see the desktop with the flash light it will most likely be the back light if not then most likely the inverter, however I have seen bad LCD's display the same symptoms as inverters occasionally.

Re: Dell Inspiron 8600 LCD Not lighting

it flashes on in shades of pink when i boot the system then goes to black (LCD)
THe external works fine. When shine a light on the screen, I DO see the image on the LCD.
Is it worth it to change the inverter before ordering a new screen?

It just may be only because of the pink, but I don't have a good feeling about it.
Here's who I have dealt with for LCD's and Inverters> http://www.smartmicrousa.com/index.aspx
