Won't boot from USB CD drive
spider-man did you ever get this problem fixed. I am having the exact same problem. Have tried to boot from USB an CD with not luck (changes the boot order in BIOS).

Does CD drive work if used in another computer?

Re: Won't boot from USB CD drive
So drive has been tested on another computer and it works fine. Have you tested the CD you are using? Also (and most important of all) does your laptop support booting from an external USB connected device?

Re: Won't boot from USB CD drive
Can't test CD drive in another computer because I do not have another laptop. CD was working prior, after initial crash. Repair CD indicated a partition repair occurred. After partition repair, could not get CD to work. Boot CD's I have attempted to use on laptop work in desktop. Created boot USB thumb drive and still nothing, just black screen.

Re: Won't boot from USB CD drive
May be coincidence or bad timing but if the CDs being used are working in another computer then it only means your drive is dead (or may be dying).
Can you still go into BIOS setup? If yes, then I believe you made the necessary changes to boot from USB device. If it cannot boot from your USB flash drive then it is possible your USB flash drive is NOT bootable (or not tested to work) or BIOS does not support booting from a USB device. Btw, regardless if it supports booting from CD or USB device, LCD should show something (ex. logo splash or POST).

Re: Won't boot from USB CD drive
Are you using a USB connected CD drive (see title of this thread)?
I am guessing but I think you are trying to install Windows in the hard drive but laptop does not boot from USB connected CD drive or internal CD drive. Should this be the case consider the steps here: http://www.syschat.com/install-windo...py-cd-463.html
