Cannot connect to the Internet- Ideas?
hELLO ALL
i JUST purchased a refurbished IBM Laptop and installed XP on it. Then when i plug in the Ethernet cable, there's no internet. When i type in 'ipconfig /all', that doesnt give me any info, it just displays a general 1 line message, but no details about the IP configuration. Do i need to install anything else before i can connect to the internet? any ideas whats going on? thank you |

Re: Cannot connect to the Internet- Ideas?
Ok, i installed Everest.
Under Network, PCI/PnP Network it's showing me: Atheros AR5001X+ Wireless Network Adapter - Type PCI Intel PRO/1000 MT Mobile Connection (IBM) - Type PCI Do i maybe need to install the drivers for those 2 things? If thats the case, i guess i only need to install the Atheros driver? Can someone pls give me a link to the driver download site? I googled it, but theres so many sites outthere, not sure which one is the correct one to download from. And one more question, is there Atheros AR5001X WiFi card any good? Seems to be old. If its too old/not reliable, i'm even thinking to return this laptop and buy a new one. What do u guys think? Last edited by alexdallas; 06-13-2009 at 07:27 AM. |

Re: Cannot connect to the Internet- Ideas?
Borrow a computer get on the internet and go to the manufacturers site of the computer. Look up the model number then down load the drivers for the nic. Once this is done go to control panel on your computer go to add hardware the to network adapter. When it asks to search for a driver go to have disk and negotiate your way to that driver file you downloaded and burnt to a cd.

Re: Cannot connect to the Internet- Ideas?
thats what i tried:
http://www.atheros.com/pt/wlan_core.htm the 5001 is not listed there, its probably too old(2003 or so) they dont make it anymore. now when i google it, i find some sites but i wanna make sure theyre 100% legit before i download/install anything from them. now the other thing is: should i buy another card and replace the current 5001 internal wifi card? does it depend on what kind of laptop i have, or can i buy just any wireless card? what is the price range for the wifi cards? sorry for all these stupid questions,.dont know much about WiFi cards.. |

Re: Cannot connect to the Internet- Ideas?
Thanks. I installed the Intel Card drive.
I cannot find any Atheros R5001X drivers though on the internet. The Atheros website only lists 5002 and upper models, prolly the 5001 is too old. Dont know what to do next... |

Re: Cannot connect to the Internet- Ideas?
If IBM sold it with that card, they will probably have it avaiable for download. It may be a version that was only sold to OEM's. You should always try the PC manufacturers site for drivers . . the devices are often specific to OEM's
