In-built wireless adaptor has disappeared?
Hi, I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 1 on my Compaq laptop (just over 2 years old), and a couple of months ago my in-built wireless adaptor just disappeared from my system. One day I was using wireless internet, the next day I couldn't detect any networks and I used the extent of my computer knowledge to check Device Manager, where it wasn't even listed...
I didn't change anything on my laptop, have tried running system restore to no avail and have been trying to figure this out for months! Having browsed the forums I can see I'm not supplying as much information as is probably needed but my computer knowledge is really not great. I have installed that Belarc program and according to that there are no network drives installed. Is this a common problem with Vista? Any help would be really appreciated. Thank you! |

Re: In-built wireless adaptor has disappeared?
I'm really sorry, but I don't know how to check BIOS? And I didn't get any driver software when I bought the laptop so can't reinstall it.
If you could supply me with a link to how to check bios, or explain how to do it on here that would be great, thanks |

Re: In-built wireless adaptor has disappeared?
you enter the bios with either
delete f1 f2 during the post screens one of the screens will say which one to press look for onboard devices you will need to d/l the driver from the makers sites d/load page for your laptop

Tried fruitlessy to get in bios but whichever keys I pressed did not work! I decided to try and find the driver I needed by searching my laptop model number and did find a compatible driver (here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...s=2093&lang=en), but the install failed...with an error box appearing saying the install was not completed and it gave me two options: to try reninstalling with recommended settings or to cancel install...tried it again several times but still no luck!
I'm really stuck with this! ![]() Have resorted to calling PREMIUM rate numbers to try and find a solution to this, first called PC World support as that is where I bought the laptop from and they told me that my problem is a known issue with the model F502EA and that Compaq had extended the warranty on it because of this to 2 years...HOWEVER my wireless adaptor has failed 2 months over this extended warranty, and so PC World had to refer me to HP. Called another premium rate number to speak to someone at HP, who was really rude and wouldn't help me, and just gave me the number for PC World again! What am I supposed to do?! :-( Last edited by dai; 06-12-2009 at 09:45 AM. |

Re: In-built wireless adaptor has disappeared?
i don't know what your consumer laws are there but here it would be a known problem and they would still be responsible to fix it
i would go back to where you bought it or contact your consumer affairs, fair trading or whatever it's name is there and see where you stand with it

Re: In-built wireless adaptor has disappeared?
I have the same issue with 2 HP laptops. I tried replacing the wireless cards both mini PCI bus cards, but that did not help in either case. Yesterday I did a online chat with HP. They told me my laptop was still under warranty (news to me, we have had it for nearly 2yrs) and that they would be sending a box for returning to service.
The strange part is that the tech did not ask any of the most basic questions. (ie : is the wireless switch on?) Just told me it needed to be returned. Last edited by Integral50; 06-12-2009 at 02:46 PM. |
