I was on my Advent 4211 netbook laptop yesterday and all of a sudden it froze and made a beeping noise going der-duh...der-duh. It kept doing it and so I turned off and turned back on and it made the noise again, the normal screen appeared then disappeared and then came up with a blank screen. Then said: "Media Test Failed"
And: "Exiting PXE-ROM" or something that then after a couple of seconds, it left a few lines and said "Boot Failure. Press any key to continue..." And that's it just repeats that. I tried TechGuys Recovery backup from a USB but it just kept opening the files, then says please wait, then restarts the laptop and does it all again, the beeping noise is still going on, the beeping noise is coming from the hard drive. Please guys help...I have a feeling that the hard drive may have somehow be corrupted or damaged, what do you suggest guys? Thanks. |

Re: Advent 4211 Boot failure, Backups no good, help!
hi i found this in a previous thread which may be of help
In the BIOS, look in the boot options and take the "other devices" or "other" out of the boot sequence. Also check to see if boot from LAN is enabled. If it is, disable it. PXE is a protocol that will enable you to boot from a network drive or server. When it says that it failed, it is because it could not find an OS on the network

Re: Advent 4211 Boot failure, Backups no good, help!
If it cannot boot from HDD and goes directly to network (PXE message shown on screen) then your HDD may be bust. Try using Hitach DFT or SeaTools CD based diagnostic utilities to test your HDD via the CD/DVD drive.
