[SOLVED] BOOTMGR is missing! (different problem!)
Hi,
Yesterday my friend tried installing Windows Vista Ultimate while I was unawaure. Since I did not want that on my computer, he had already formatted my HD and partitioned it and everything. When the installation was maybe 20% of the way through, he closed out. Had I realized the computer was already formatted, I would have gone through with it. But now when I load windows up it has the black screen "BOOTMGR is missing, Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart." I have tried putting in the ACTUALY windows xp installation CD, but it says the system cannot detect a hard drive. I assume this means that in the cancellation process the driver for my HD was removed!! I have tried downloaded a Gateway M465-E recovery CD and burned it to CD on another computer, and my laptop will still not boot from that, I assume this because there is no installed OS. Laptop Specs: Gateway M465-E 80 gb HD 1.5 gb RAM (rest isn't important) This IS capable of installing Windows Vista (any verison) also with the upgrade advisor. Should I possible load windows to an external HD, load it on my laptop, and then install the driver onto the system from there? Please help! Thanks, Brian Last edited by btanaka; 06-09-2009 at 12:44 PM. |

Re: BOOTMGR is missing! (different problem!)
Hi Brian,
So basically you want to install XP but XP installation cannot see your hard drive? Are you using SATA? If yes, then I suggest you slipstream the SATA driver with your XP installation.

Re: BOOTMGR is missing! (different problem!)
It was installing Vista from XP Professional SP3, but the first Vista installation was cancelled part of the way through which apparently removed the HD driver. But, all is fixed now. thanks!
