Gateway 200ARC Service Manual
I have a Gateway 200ARC at work, it's fan started dying today. I got it shut down before it completely died. After giving it a few good bursts of canned air, I tried it again, however there was no change. The fan is obviously and audibly dying.
I'm decent with hardware maintenance and replacements, but this is new to me. After searching this forum and googling a while, I found some snippets on how to replace this fan, but I'm looking for something a bit more definative. I removed all the screws on the bottom of the case, and the battery. When I couldn't free or seperate the case, I started searching. From my research, I think I need to remove the LCD screen, but I'm not certain after that, and I've not made a 2nd attempt. Our local repair quotes me $200 for 2 hours labor to do the job; not cost effective on this unit. But if I can do it myself for the cost of the new fan, it'd be worth saving. If someone has a link for the service manual online, or can post a 'step by step', I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Re: Gateway 200ARC Service Manual
Make sure you get all the screws out. They include the all outside the case on the bottom of the case, especially the KBD screws. Which means that the keyboard SHOULD come off automatically, but no it is tricky. There are some small clips that keep the keyboard secured, which you could push back and get the keyboard out. Again, as always be careful. I lost my F4 key because of this fact.
After you unsecure the keyboard ribbon, the keyboard will not obstruct your goal. Then there is is one screw near the left hand side. Unscrew that and then go for the LCD hinge covers, which can be popped off. Next are just two screws that secure the LCD hinges and the screen cable (left side) and wifi cables (right side). OH BTW, MAKE SURE YOU DISCONNECT ANY RIBBON CONNECTORS (KBD, TOUCHPAD, FOUR BUTTONS ON TOP) , so that the top case and bottom case will separte easily. Just disconnect those and VOILA!, the case will be unsecured, which will give full access to replace the fan. Once you are finished, just connect everything in reverse order and MAKE SURE there are no leftover screws. BTW, I tried this the hardway, w/o a manual (I like to open and reassemble electronics). It took me around 2 hours. Once I found out about that screw under the KBD, it took me less than 20 mins now. |

Re: Gateway 200ARC Service Manual
Thank you joeten.
@Turnkey, here is the general webpage: http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/...501609nv.shtml To be more specific to remove the keyboard: http://support.gateway.com/s/Manuals/Mobile/8509155.pdf This is the pdf that will tell you how to remove the keyboard then refer back to my original post to remove that last screw on the lefthand side. I hope this helps. |
