RAM Failure
Hi,
I upgraded my RAM 18 months ago (I have Thinkpad T42 with 512GB, put additional 1GB OCZ PC2700) and it was working just fine up until yesterday. Yesterday my laptop didn't want start, only when I removed the additional RAM it was working normally. Any ideas what should I do? Marta |

Re: RAM Failure
Hello,
Try booting the system with just the 1 stick of RAM that was added. If the system won't boot with either slot then the RAM has probably failed.

Re: RAM Failure
Are you still having problems starting up your laptop or PC? If the computer is still not working after makinu1der2's advice then it's worth buying new RAM, especially as you can buy it very cheap at the moment. Hopefully some new RAM will help the computer boot up.

Re: RAM Failure
Well I guess new RAM is what I need, I replaced the original one with OCZ and still nothing... can you tell me which to buy? I am thinking about buying 2x1GB PC2700 333Mhz, you think Kingston is a good choice?

Re: RAM Failure
Hi Marta,
Before you buy any new RAM it may be worth going to your nearest local computer store to see if they can test your laptop with their own RAM. There may be a small service charge for this but you can always get them to also do a system checkup as well while your there (depending on the cost). You don't want to spend £40-£50 on new memory only to find out something else is wrong with the laptop. In terms of where to buy there are many places online to choose from including kingston, ebuyer and crucial. The best advice is to shop around and look for the best prices and of course good customer reviews to indicate quality of the memory. Let us know how it goes, Matthew HP |

Re: RAM Failure
Hi Matthew,
I got one OCZ 1GB 400Mhz from a friend of mine, and it's working just fine. I will take out my old 512 - 333Mhz and will put 2x1GB 400Mhz. I hope I will not have any problems... Thank you for your help Marta |
