EEK! Compaq V5214ea Screen Dark

Hi There everyone,

I currently have a Compaq V5214ea laptop and it's very hard to see whats on screen,

i initally thought it was a power invertor problem, so i got i new one and intalled it but got same problem, a friend of mine has the exact same laptop so i took his and removed the lcd, cable and invertor and plugged it into mine,

same problem again!!!!!!

so i took the LCD screen, cable and invertor from the faulty one and put it into my friends working laptop, the result was that the screen lit up and looked good apart from one red line on the screen,

does this mean that my faulty laptop needs a new motherboard and a screen?

anyone had this problem before?????

Re: Compaq V5214ea Screen Dark

it can't be the backlight or invertor,

i have put a working backlight and inverter into the laptop from another compaq 5214ea that i know for a fact works perfect, and it does the exact same thing, it has to be a problem with the lcd connection on the motherboard! Do you not agree?

Re: Compaq V5214ea Screen Dark

Is the laptop the same when you plug in your charger, this is usually a power-saving feature when the screen goes quite a bit darker when unplugged from the AC adaptor.

To check this just plug in your charger, your screen should get brighter. If it does this can usually be changed from within the OS, and there will almost certainly be a hot key for this on your laptops keyboard. Take a look at your Fn key and possible combinations. On my dell i press Fn and then the up arrow to increase the screens brightness.
