DVD problems in HP 6730s
I have a new HP 6730s running XP Professional SP2. My DVD drive (HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T50L) reads and writes CDs but fails to recognise blank DVDs and, while recognising DVDs, is unable to play them in, for instance, the VLC player.
There is a thread from last year that suggested a similar problem, but it seems not to have been resolved. Any suggestions? Thanks Jmny |

Re: DVD problems in HP 6730s
Thanks for the quick response, dai.
My registry entry mentioned on that page doesn't contain a field for UpperFilters or LowerFilters, so I'm guessing that's not the problem. I have subsequently been able to write to a DVD using CDBurnerXP but am still not able to get a DVD to play through the VLC player. It seems that something is being read from the drive but the software only displays gibberish. I am able to play DVD files (.vob) that I've ripped on another computer and transferred to this one, so I'm guessing that it's not a problem with VLC, memory or the graphics card. jmny |
