Dell Inspiron 1000 Battery Problem
I have a Dell Inspiron 1000 running Windows XP. When I try to turn the laptop on with the battery in, it freezes at the Dell splash screen and will not respond to anything. However, when I take the battery out and turn it on using AC power, it works and boots perfectly normal. Windows shows the charging status as "Unknown Power Remaining". The charging light is green constantly. It nevers goes orange as it should when charging. Is it a problem with the battery or the computer? Again, the battery is what seems to make it freeze at the Dell screen. Once I take it out and try to boot it works fine.

Re: Dell Inspiron 1000 Battery Problem
Looks like a malfunctioning battery. Have you tried another battery?

Re: Dell Inspiron 1000 Battery Problem
Yep, I understand. And that is the reason why a DIY is always difficult and costly compared to just bringing it to a repair shop. I say that because it is almost impossible to isolate a problem if you do not have some parts to use in the process... in this case a spare battery.
