Vista Mouse/Keyboard failure Issue
Hi, i've had my toshiba satellite series Vista laptop since 2005, and have ran it with no problems, a few months ago when i tried to boot it, during the windows loading screen it makes a static or white noise sound and after a few minutes the keyboard, mouse and USB ports become completely unresponsive even though the rest of the computer seems to run fine until it shuts down.
I also noticed that the fan doesn't work which i know can freeze up the computer and I receive an error message stating that a piece of hardware has failed and needs to be replaced. I just need to know if it is the fans fault or if it is another piece of hardware? |

Re: Vista Mouse/Keyboard failure Issue
Do you hear the fan spin when you power ON the laptop?
I am not so sure about the static noise you hear but I suggest you boot with another operating system like Ubuntu or Knoppix live CD. If you still hear the static noise, remove the hard drive and boot the live CD again. Also observe if keyboard, mouse and USB ports become unresponsive in this environment.

Re: Vista Mouse/Keyboard failure Issue
Hi again, I may have worded my original post incorrectly and would like to add that at the startup screen and if i manage to log in...my mouse will skip around or it freezes for about 10-30 seconds and then allows me to use it for a few seconds before freezing again. The same thing happens with my keyboard, so in reality they are skipping in and out of working and freezing. When I startup the computer i do hear the fan for a few seconds but it eventually freezes every few seconds or just stops.

Re: Vista Mouse/Keyboard failure Issue
I still encourage you to try the linux live CD approach and post back what you find out.
