My Acer Laptop will not boot after power failure.

Ok I am having an issue I can not figure out.

My Computer:
Acer Aspire 5672wlmi Running Windows XP Home SP2 Edition.
1.66 Ghz Dula Core Processor.
2 Gb Ram
120 Gb Harddrive

OK a couple weeks ago my laptop battery died. When it died my touchpad and keyboard would not respond, but if I plug in external devices the external devices would run fine. At first I thought it was a virus so I backed up my files then did F.A.S.T., after that I did a recovery install from the hidden Acer partition. But that did not help as I was having the same issue no touchpad or keyboard, but if I plug in external devices the external devices would run fine. I did research to find out that it was my battery and not a virus. I have yet to get a new battery in. The laptop was working ok with out the battery. Just not portable enough anymore.

Now here is my current issue. While I was booting my laptop yesterday I had one of my helpers plug something in to the powerstrip my laptop was plugged into. When he plugged the other thing in he accidently hit the switch to turn off the power strip. So the latop turned off because of power failure to the lack of the battery. Now when ever I boot the laptop it takes forever to get to the Power Failure Screen where it lists Safe Mode.............Start Windows Normally. Now when I pick something it always freezes right there for a while. Then as the white bar loading windows. After a littlle longer the laptop finally says Windows cannot start because file is missing or corrupted. I have also tried booting into the Acer Recovery Console but it does not go in. At this point I am not sure of what to do.

I noticed you have 2 posts/threads opened on the same topic... first one here: My Acer Laptop will not boot after power failure.

I hope you have read forum rules as this is not allowed. But I will let this pass since you are new member. I would not give any infraction for this one.

I do encourage you to read FORUM RULES. Thank you.

Run CHKDSK /R and SFC /SCANNOW in Command Prompt. If in the process the commands would need to restore Windows files, you may need an XP Home install CD.

Re: My Acer Laptop will not boot after power failure.

I have read the forum rules before I posted. I also did a search to make sure it wasn't already answered. In fact that is how I got to this forum. I googled my problem, and Acer is a common tag.

I am sorry about the double post/topic. I thought I only did one. Well I will try what you said and see if it works. But as it stands right now I can even boot to safe mode or anything.

Re: My Acer Laptop will not boot after power failure.

If you cannot boot into Windows anymore (not even in Safe Mode or Normal mode or Safe Mode Command Prompt), I suggest you do a repair install of XP. You should boot from CD/DVD drive using your XP installation CD.

EDIT:
BTW, you can also run CHKDSK /R in Recovery Console (via XP install CD).

Re: My Acer Laptop will not boot after power failure.

Well I had already did chkdsk. I will try the other one from the recovery mode of my xp home cd. But when ever I go into recovery on the cd it takes me to command promtp. After that I don't know.

If you have done CHKDSK in Recovery Console via XP install CD, then I suggest you try XP repair install. Instructions here:

Re: My Acer Laptop will not boot after power failure.

Actually I found that on google. I have tried exactly what was written but to no avail. When I went to install there was no repair option. So I stopped and did not continue because I did not want to do a fresh install. I don't know maybe I will have to order a replacement drive and have some one ghost it for me, because of the hidden partition.

Re: My Acer Laptop will not boot after power failure.

No repair option? If so, then it could not be a full/retail version of XP installation. Are you using a recovery/restore CD?
