How to improve graphic display from graphic driver download
I just purchased Dell Studio 17. The graphic card in this laptop is Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD. However, when I check graphic driver through device manager, I have found that driver is for Mobile Intel 4 series express chipset family with version 7.15.10.1576. My question is: can I download Dell Studio 1737 Intel Mobile Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD Driver A03 to update my current gtaphic driver so that the graphic display and resolution can be improved? Otherwise, I may return this laptop back to Bestbuy. Thanks for your input.

I don't see how its going to do any harm. Just make sure to set a restore point before installing it.
If you find you are going to return the laptop, it might be best to check on the replacement specs for a Dedicated card as opposed to an intergrated. |

The replacement of graphic card, do you think, is a good choice? At least, laptop doesn't like desktop. It is a little bit hard to open the box. I had better to let others to deal with it. |

Re: How to improve graphic display from graphic driver download
An integrated graphics card would call for a motherboard replacement. If you are trying to play games you will find the bottleneck to be your graphics card. You did not say what your would be using the laptop for. I believe you can return within 21 days of purchase and they will charge you a restocking fee if there is not anything physically wrong with laptop. So make sure you check on the return policy. If you want a better graphics card you would be better off buying an XPS.

Duke, I meant if you replace the Laptop. I clearly stated if you are going to replace the laptop.
Try and check any specs of another possible choice as to whether it has a dedicated card. Last edited by belfasteddie; 05-12-2009 at 12:28 PM. |

Re: How to improve graphic display from graphic driver download
Here is a chart that you compare the graphics cards for the 17. As you can see the ATI card you can get on the Studio 17 is superior to the Intel. But you can use this chart to compare graphics cards on other laptops also.
