Cause of my HP video problem?

About a year ago, the hinges broke on my HP Pavilion ZV6000. About two months after that, my monitor would very occasionally flicker, then freeze in mid-flicker.

To un-freeze it and get it back to normal, I applied pressure to one of a few different spots along the bezel. This usually worked, though over the past six months or so, it got increasingly stubborn.

Now it's at a point where the flicker won't stop unless I hold continuous pressure on my bezel.

A few key notes:

-The VGA output works fine on my Sony Bravia TV.
-I still haven't replaced the hinges. I don't see how that can be relevant but that appeared to be the turning point on this whole thing, so who knows.
-I've opened up the bezel, unscrewed the screen and tried manipulating the cable while it's on to see if it affects anything. Doesn't seem to. Then I took the battery back out. :)
-I *haven't* tried pushing on the LCD with the bezel off. I figure that'd probably bad.

Long story short, I'm not sure if I should order a replacement cable or a replacement monitor. The cable's about $20 (but requires more deconstruction under the keyboard to get to the main connection) and the screen's about $80.

Does this sound like definitely one thing or the other or would it probably be better just to replace both?

Use the manual here: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00364919.pdf

I suggest you check the connections first. The service manual (AFAIK) also has instructions for hinge replacement procedures.

Re: Cause of my HP video problem?

Your flex cable is not connected properly. Verify that it is seated properly if it will not then you will need to replace it.
