I have a new Toshiba Techra running XP SP 3. If the system is left idle for 30 or more minutes it will let you log in, then says "Saving system settings" and hangs. I went into the Toshiba control panel for power settings and disabled Stand by and Hibernate for AC and battery input, but the problem continues.
I called Toshiba tech support and they said the problem was caused by the wireless optical mouse, but I had the same problem with a directly attached trackball mouse. We checked for new drivers on the Toshiba web site, but the ones installed are the latest. |

Re: Toshiba Tecra keeps shutting down
So, 'If the system is left idle for 30 or more minutes' means that you have left it idle for 25 minutes and no problems?

Re: Toshiba Tecra keeps shutting down
Sounds like it is overheating or there is a problem with the battery. Remove the battery and try running it with just the power adapter attached and see if the problem continues. If so, blow out the fans with compressed air and get a laptop cooler.

Re: Toshiba Tecra keeps shutting down[MOVED FROM WINDOWS]
I also suggest you run diagnostics for HDD and RAM. Also check for any BIOS update that could be a fix for this specific problem.
