Intel Celeron M 520 drop-in replacement?

I've got a laptop that my friend gave me with a Celeron M 520 in it. The laptop is an HP DV6401ca, if that's of any help.

I wanna upgrade from this 1.60GHz processor, so.. Support me with technicalities, Tech Support Forum! :D

Thanks in advance.

Re: Intel Celeron M 520 drop-in replacement?

To change a cpu on desktop would take an average techie less than five minutes. To do the same on a laptop takes hours. Then when it is assembled the chance that a wire has been broken or something was missed is very high, so all must be repeated. its considered generally not economical to do, unless your going to do it yourself.
In that case, go to the manufacturers site and download the service manual.

Re: Intel Celeron M 520 drop-in replacement?

Hm, well thanks for warning me. But I'm pretty sure I could get some help from my computer class teacher.

But is there anyone who knows of any processor that would fit in the Celeron M 520's place?

Re: Intel Celeron M 520 drop-in replacement?

It's a socket M CPU so I think you'll be limited to a T1300, T1400 Core Solo or If it will support Core Duos a T2xxx I haven't found anything for sure that it will support a dual core as it appears the motherboard is optimized for a Celeron M with a 533Mhz bus speed where the T series is 667Mhz

Re: Intel Celeron M 520 drop-in replacement?

I've decided to Google for some info and found I can use any of these with Socket M

T5200 1.60ghz 533mhz 2mb
T5300 1.73ghz 533mhz 2mb
T5500 1.66ghz 667mhz 2mb
T5600 1.83ghz 667mhz 2mb
T7200 2.00ghz 667mhz 4mb
T7400 2.16ghz 667mhz 4mb
T7600 2.33ghz 667mhz 4mb

Does anyone know if they would work for an HP though? I found a thread on another forum about this but it was for a Dell.

Re: Intel Celeron M 520 drop-in replacement?

Socket M yes but your Bios and chipset however are the limiting factor the best way to find out for sure is from the horses mouth, Email HP support and and ask them what CPU's the laptop will support include the model and serial numbers in the email they are usually very good at answering these types of questions timely.
