hp pavilion infrared control wont work

Greetings,

I recently purchased an hp pavilion dv5 1299ev that came with a recovery partition of vista home. I am not a big fan of vista, in fact quite the opposite, so not only did I format the OS but being unable to resist my hatred, I erased the recovery partition as well.
Long story short, XP are no longer supported by hp, at least not really, so I was sort of forced to install vista. As I had deleted my legit copy and drivers ,I used a cracked one and downloaded the drivers from hp's website. The problem is, while all the devices have been recognized and all the drivers have been installed and properly updated, I cant seem to get the infrared control to work (ENE CIR).
I did some google search and it turns out a lot of people have this problem, even though they used the automatic software and driver installation from the recovery partition. Has this happened to anyone else? has anyone figured out a solution for this yet?
