Acer TravelMate 2420 Recovery

hi,
any body out there please.
I need to know if doing the recovery (alt+ f10) i'll loose all my data or if there any way to do it with out loosing your personal data or files?
Please some body help me because i'm waiting to do a recovery
just in case my proble is the computer at startup checking files system appear and keeps on and on and wont start, probably a virus but i want to do a recovery.

All your personal data and the programs that you installed on your own will be LOST if you do a system recovery. The only way to do it without losing your files/programs is to back them up.

i just took the disk out and puted in enclosure and then do a recovery.
