Philips X57-Recovery partition info needed
Hi, I have made a terrible mistake with my Philips X57 Laptop from PC World, Basically I needed to do a full destructive recovery and couldn't access the hidden partition so I had to use the techguys disc-Without realising I used my friends disc thinking it was myne-He has an Advent Laptop with Vista Premium, Myne is Vista Ultimate.
Somehow this disc changed the recovery files in the partition and my laptop now thinks it is an Advent, It's displaying the wrong information about the processors and RAM and It is not detecting my Nvidia Geforce Go 7400 graphics card. I have since reinstalled vista ultimate with my disc but I still have the same problems, The graphics are running on the Standard VGA monitor setting as the graphics card is not detected at all. I have Easeus Data recovery software and it can recover all files from the partition, Trouble is I only want to recover the original file and need to know exactly what files to recover. If anybody can help at all or let me know any way around this problem please post, I am OK with computers but don't have the knowledge of many on these forums. I have reinstalled all of the original drivers but still cannot detect the graphics card. Thanks in advance for any help with this. |

Re: Philips X57-Recovery partition info needed
If you have a recovery disc for your laptop, I suggest you use it to recovery your system... hoping it will correct the recovery partition too.

Re: Philips X57-Recovery partition info needed
I have restored Vista Ultimate with my recovery disc but it hasn't installed properly, When I used the wrong disc it accessed my recovery partition and changed it, My recovery disc just gets me into the partition to reinstall windows which I have done but some files are wrong or missing.

Re: Philips X57-Recovery partition info needed
I am not quite sure how it works in Philips but recovery discs that I know of do not use the recovery partition. If your recovery discs require the recovery partition then (IMO) they are useless should you replace the hard drive with a new one.
In addition, the recovery partition is usually read only. With this said, I have my doubts that it has been corrupted by the wrong disc. Anyhow, have you tried using the recovery partition alone (boot up and tap on F11 at logo)?

Quote:
I think it should be read only but in this case it can't be, When the wrong disc was in it said on screen 'Installing Recovery' Or something along those lines and what was a 5.37GB file is now 3.7GB ![]() I think on myne to access the options I use F8 but I will try F11. I have installed since with the right disc from the recovery partition but I am having many problems as somehow it thinks it is a different laptop. (Core 2 Duo Processor displayed as Dual Core, 1GB RAM instead of 2x0.5GB and the Computer name has changed to Advent 1. |

Re: Philips X57-Recovery partition info needed
I did a quick search and you are correct... it should be F8. In fact, I found the steps on how to restore from recovery partition. The steps are detailed in this website.
If you are using a recovery DVD, here are the steps.
