[SOLVED] Re-occuring DV8000 problem (overheating/cuttin out)
So in my last thread a while back I spoke about how my HP Dv8000 kept cutting out, and the fan sounded like a humming fridge. So I got a new (second hand but in good working order) fan and heatsink, applied new paste and fitted them. The laptop goes on, fan sounds quiet..you can still hear it but quieter. I downloaded FanSpeed which tells you temp of your core and it can go up to about 80C. After about an hour the laptop cut out, I checked underneath and near the fan/heatsink/battery area its burning hot. I removed the battery and ran the laptop from the mains...still same problem. Does anyone have any ideas?

Re: Re-occuring DV8000 problem (overheating/cuttin out)
You sound like you know what your talking about , so I am somewhat reluctant in asking .
Are the airways clear? If you move your hand around the comp can you feel the hot air being expelled? Can you increase the underneath clearance? If this has the ML-32 Turion the max temp is 95 C. |

Re: Re-occuring DV8000 problem (overheating/cuttin out)
Yeah airways are clear apart from it being on my desk, I used arctic silicone thermal paste..not sure if maybe i applied too much. So I've got arctic silver 5 instead (I've heard about the pros/cons before anyone says anything). Not really anything I can do/move to clear space near the vent. Im not gonna give up cause I have a feeling its somethin simple to fix. I thought it may have been the battery initially as it did tend to run out within 20 mins of use (unplugged at mains). But the heat is definately coming from the fan/heatsink area, which is also next to the power input *sigh* think I might take it apart again

Re: [SOLVED] Re-occuring DV8000 problem (overheating/cuttin out)
Managed to fix it by the looks of things, early days to tell 100%, but the core temp is remaining under 40C/35C. I replaced the silicone thermal paste with arctic silver 5 (I love that stuff!) and attached my old heat sink (second hand one I purchased wasn't soaking up the heat).
