Confused HP dv9000 old liquid spill still worked now won't power on

HP dv9000 won't power up. HP repaired a faulty hinge - I thought was binding up the power but after they opened it up they found remnants of an old spill. After the spill months ago it was drained and allowed to dry and continued to work. Now the power button lights up for 2-3 seconds then powers off. HP claims the old spill came back to haunt it. If I clean the MB & CPU do you think it will help? And does it sound like this is really the problem?

It is possible that the liquid has corroded some components on the mobo (if it reached the mobo during the spill). On the other hand, it could also be something else. Try to replace ALL the RAM (just for isolation purposes) currently installed.

Thank you. I am grateful for the suggestion. I'm awaiting the return from HP - should be tomorrow or the next day. I will try that and let you know.

I got the computer back and now it will power on but the screen stays black - nothing loads. Any suggestions? I'm going to look for a recovery cd but am not sure I have one.

I suggest you bring it back to HP. Obviously the repair is not complete.

You may test it using an external monitor. If computer works fine with an external monitor then you can say there must be some issues with the LCD or the inverter.
