Bootable cd not booting

i have a compaq presario 3000 laptop, since i needd to reinstall Windows XP..it sems not to boot, it goes directly to windows i tried setting the first drive to CD rom but t no avail, also if i try to check cds from explorer it shows blank in some CDs but data cds, and mp3 cds video, dvds.can be seen normally . pls.. help..i am frustrated

is the cd a restore cd that came with the computer

try cleaning the disk
try the disk in another computer to check it
