HP DV9335NR Display Dead
I purchased an HP DV9335NR Laptop in May of 2006. I recently had the screen go blank and was only able to boot Vista into safe mode on an external CRT. I returned it to the Best Buy where purchased and Geek Squad said it needed a new display and gave a quote of 1200.00 to repair, for replacement of the LCD screen. I needn't express my frustration of having a catastrophic failure in only 2 years. My question is: Would I be able to bypass the laptop display and use an external monitor? I was able to get a visual with a CRT in safe mode but unable to further boot Vista. I also connected to the VGA terminal on the laptop. I do have a docking station that also has a VGA output. I hope it can be done. Any replies welcome and appreciated. Oh did I mention, this is most likely my final HP products purchase? :-)

About the blank display, check the P/N on the label on the bottom side of the laptop and check if it is included in here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...77&lc=en&cc=us

Re: HP DV9335NR Display Dead
Sorry I forgot to answer the question you asked in your first post about an external monitor... Yes, AFAIK you can use an external monitor via the VGA port of the laptop assuming your video chip/card is in good working condition. However if the problem you are facing now is caused by the video card then I doubt if it will work with an external monitor.

Re: HP DV9335NR Display Dead
I was told the GPU was ok yet when I attached the external monitor I still can't get out of safe mode. In safe mode there is some visual corruption but it is only running at 640x480 and 4bit so I cant be sure about the GPU. Perhaps I should try removing the video driver? I think Vista uses a generic driver doesnt it? My concern is that I can't seem to boot vista.

Re: HP DV9335NR Display Dead
So in Normal Mode you cannot see anything on the LCD or external monitor? I suggest you uninstall the video driver. D/load video driver from HP website for your model and install in your laptop.
