no display for vaio

I have a newer vaio that got its monitor damaged. after sending it to sony they looked at it and set it back saying i would have to replace the monitor myself. i ordered and installed the monitor but i dont get a display. the backlight comes on, the brightness adjustment works, ive put the moniter into a different laptop and it works fine, but when its in the vaio i get no display. i even tried hooking the vaio up to an external display and still get no signal. could it possibly be a cable issue? or am i looking at a potentially worse problem?

Re: no display for vaio

Could be a video chip/card or motherboard issue. Try to plug in and power ON the external monitor while vaio is OFF. Power ON the vaio and see if you get anything on the external monitor. If not, try to wait for a few minutes after startup (DO NOT POWER OFF laptop and monitor) then toggle between screens (Fn+F4 or Fn+F7... see Users Guide for exact key combination).

Re: no display for vaio

If you do not see anything in both screens (no POST, logo splash, etc.) then it could be a video card or the motherboard.
