Acer error while booting

Sally, did you get it fixed? I have the same errors only mine will not boot at all. I get the Error 0200 and the PXE-E61 error plus a one saying vgaoem.fon is missing. It asks to boot from windows xp disk and press R when prompted but it doesn't get that far when I try it. It just hangs at the Starting Windows screen.

Did you end up having to do the soldar fix? If so I'm going to have to take it in somewhere.

Cheers

Dave

Re: Acer error while booting

Hi Dave,

I moved your post into its own thread.

If you see the ' PXE...' message at startup I assume you were not able to boot from the hard drive... is that correct?

Re: Acer error while booting

Yes that's right. I actually downloaded a Hitachi diagnostic test which said the hard drive was fine. I copied the data from it using my usb external disk reader and put the data on my desktop computer so I have nothing to lose. I thought at the worst I'd just do a clean install but I can't even get that far. Therefore I'm thinking it's hardware, especially after reading that last thread. I've tried different RAM in there too and get the same message

Re: Acer error while booting

You get the error about the fixed disk at boot up but when you ran the Hitachi DFT diagnostic it showed no errors?

This is a common problem with ACER. If HDD and its connections have been ruled out, then it could be something on the mobo (I think you have seen the YouTube clip on this).

I believe this can be repaired but will be expensive. I think the same is true if you get the mobo replaced ($100 to $200 depends on the model).

Re: Acer error while booting

Yes I saw the Youtube clip. I'm trying my best to fix it but I'm beginning to think a new laptop might be less hassle! My friend is pretty good with a soldaring iron though so I might show him the video and see what he thinks.

Re: Acer error while booting

Just an update on what happened. We re-soldered the hard disk connections on the motherboard and that didn't work. I put the original ram back in it and also tried taking the hard disk out of its cover and tried it as well as trying the suggestions about it slightly pulled out and pressure applied etc. Nothing has worked and so I'm at the point of giving up and buying a new laptop unless anyone has any other suggestions. Thanks, Dave
