Having trouble with Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-K17LF ATA Device
Like my friend with another tread before, i put my Dvd in the tray but it cannot be read.
I've tried to delete low and up filters, but nothing changed . These are some info that might help : 1) i share conection with more 3 computers trought a modem [ all of them are vista ] 2) in the 3 pc's Dvd's can't be read. 3) this problems occurred when i made an update in my auto-updater from vista. And when i double click the ''empty'' driver, it appers the following : '' put a disc in the driver '' help pls ! |

Re: Having trouble with Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-K17LF ATA Device
You said it cannot read DVD discs, but how about CD discs? Can you boot from the CD/DVD drive using a bootable disc?

Re: Having trouble with Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-K17LF ATA Device
Test your drive in a different computer. If it can read both DVD and CD media discs there then there must be a problem in your computer. However if symptom persists (can read CD but not DVD) then you have a dead drive. Replace the drive.

Re: Having trouble with Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-K17LF ATA Device
The fact is,
'' 1) i share conection with more 3 computers trought a modem [ all of them are vista ] 2) in the 3 pc's Dvd's can't be read '' It couldn't be a device failure in the 3 computers... |

Re: Having trouble with Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-K17LF ATA Device
The thing is, they are 3 diferent computers operating with 3 diferent drives, all from this Pioneer Dvd-rw.
And i don't know if it's coincidence, but it might have failed after a windwos vista update. And a friend told me that could be a virus in the modem. So i don't know

Hi Applepi3.....
I had worked on a toshiba laptop once with the same issue ..... it updated vista and after it restarted, u could not find the D: drive, which is the DVDrw/CDrw drive....What i found out was, with vista the registry gets corrupted and so it show it missing....u have to search for a small registry fix called CDrom out ....i don't think i have it but i will search my flash drives for it and post it later..... Thanks in advance eliang Last edited by eliang; 04-11-2009 at 06:06 PM. |

As for the registry fix... try this: You can no longer access the CD/DVD drive or Code 31 or Code 37

I understand if you are hoping that there is a tweak for this but by the looks of it, there is none. Fact is, these things fail and like everything else, you need to replace them when they break.

What makes me mad is that the 3 computers i have here in my house, ALL vista, and it failed that same drive... [after this update. ] that's why i think our friend here has some points in this ''theory'' of failing drive. |

Re: Having trouble with Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-K17LF ATA Device
So you tried the drive in another computer and it worked? You used the same DVDs that were not read before? Where is this drive connected/installed? If you can shed some light on how the 3 computers share the drive may be that could help us picture how and what you are doing.

They are 3 different computers operating with 3 *different* drives [ all the same dvr-k17f i mentioned up there ] And all of them, after this update i told u, failed. I'm working in a laptop, and installing devices by myself is quite impossible XD |

Re: Having trouble with Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-K17LF ATA Device
Oh ok I think I get it now. So here's what we know so far:
If this started after an automatic update, may be you can (if you have not done so yet) go back to a restore point before the update happened. This can be done in Vista (steps here - http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windo...ystem-restore/). Another way I can think of (aside from doing a restore) is to uninstall the device (DVD) in Device Manager. Reboot. Open Device Manager and do a scan for new hardware.

Re: Having trouble with Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-K17LF ATA Device
Do you have a bootable DVD disc? I believe Vista install disc is in DVD, may be you can try booting from it as if you are doing a new install of Vista (of course you would not proceed with the install... just use the disc to boot the computer until you see the Vista installation menu). If the computer can boot using DVD disc then you can conclude that your hardware is really good... a reinstall of Vista would be appropriate if you cannot go back to a previous restore point.
