Sony Vaio Shutting Down Randomly
Hi,
I have a Sony Vaio model PCG-5G3L running Windows Vista Home Premium. For the past few weeks it has been randomly shutting down. Its as if I've pulled the plug and taken out the battery, doesnt go through the shut down process at all, just instantly off. Occasionally, I get the blue screen with stop error 7F, but that doesn't happen very often, and its generally when I try to run too many programs, so thats not the main problem. I have tried so many things to figure it out, but I just can not find out what the problem is. I defragment, run virus scans, do disk cleanup, and everything else i can think of to fix it. I even took off the back panel to see if anything was messing up inside and everything looked fine. It happens frequently, and has happened probably 12 or so times in the past 3 hours, although its generally not this bad. Thanks in advance for any help :) System specs: Vista 2 GB ram Intel core 2 duo CPU T7100 @ 1.80 GHz Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family Thanks, Paige |

Re: Sony Vaio Shutting Down Randomly
Any observation if it's caused by overheating?

Re: Sony Vaio Shutting Down Randomly
Yeah, I thought that's what it was because it was running semi-hot. But after the first like 2 times, I had a small fan from my old dorm room, and I've started putting the laptop ontop of it so its always very cool now. I downloaded Speedfan to see how hot it was running to make sure, and its usually about 46 degrees celsius, which seems ok, although I'm not sure. Thanks for the quick reply :)

Re: Sony Vaio Shutting Down Randomly
46C is not bad in fact it is like average. Did you get any unwanted shutdowns with your current setup (with the fan at the bottom and SpeedFan installed)?

Re: Sony Vaio Shutting Down Randomly
Since you are using SpeedFan were you able to observe how high the temps got before the shutdown?
