[SOLVED] IBM G40 Screen Dark When On Battery

Hello all,

I am a new owner of a G40 - type 2388 - Model 7RU
Celeron 2.2GHz, 128MB RAM, 20GB HDD, 14.1 XGA(1024x768) TFT LCD, 24x-10x CD-ROM, Modem(CDC), Ethernet(LOM), FDD, 6 cell Li-Ion battery, WinXP Home.

Something with the video was strange. With LCD and monitor selected, there is a slight shadow in the LCD, of that which appears perfect in an external monitor. LCD only = nothing, monitor only = monitor fine, no shadow in LCD. Think it was an inverter (maybe) I picked up a new one and no go - still dark. So I bought a replacement LCD - still dark.
Played with a number of things and the screen lit up and will stay lit so long as on AC. Pull the AC and the screen goes dark (can see a shadow of that which was lit)

Plug in AC and it will stay dark
Press Fn F4 go into standby mode then press any key comes out of standby and LCD is bright.

I have done this a number of times - never runs on battery even when it is at 99%...Battery at spec voltage and Resistance......so what might this be?

Thanks for the help!
BR

By any chance you can upload an image so we can understand clearly of what the problem is?

Thanks

Re: IBM G40 Screen Dark When On Battery

You won't have an image - The LCD screen is either 98% black or perfect.
The 98% black happens when running on battery. It runs perfect when on the power adapter.

Thanks in advance,
BR

Re: IBM G40 Screen Dark When On Battery

AFAIK if LCD dims when you are running on batteries, you can change the settings in Battery Maximiser Wizard (Start | Programs | Access IBM).

Re: IBM G40 Screen Dark When On Battery

Please post a screen shot of the power scheme configuration for battery and one for the AC.

When in battery can you still change the display setting to make it brighter?

Btw, how old is the battery? If power scheme setting is the same for AC and battery but you get 98% dim lcd when on battery then may be you need to replace the battery.

Re: [SOLVED] IBM G40 Screen Dark When On Battery

Although new - it was the inverter.
