CD/DVD and Flash drives don't get a letter in Disk management
Hi all,
I'm having this problem with my new Asus F8vr laptop (Vista Home premium OS): the CD/DVD and Flash drives don't appear in "My computer". They appear as "correctly working" in Device Manager and as "online" in Disk Management but without a letter assigned. When I try to change any drive letter and assign any value ("Z" for instance) the driver gets it and appears in "My computer" for about one second before losing the letter again and disappearing. The Flash drives lights are on, and the icon in the bottom right part of the screen is ok. I've tried them with every port and the result is the same. They work in any other PC I've tried them with. When I boot the system the DVD player spins therefore I've ruled out power related issues. Don't know whether the problem is due to windows, my laptop, conflicting component settings or what else. Not sure also whether this is a laptop or windows issue. Any help is greatly appreciated. Cheers Last edited by pulfabio; 03-31-2009 at 01:52 AM. |

Try this for CD/DVD.. You can no longer access the CD/DVD drive or Code 31 or Code 37

Re: CD/DVD and Flash drives don't get a letter in Disk management
Hi,
Thanks for your attention and for your reply. At the end there was a problem with the pre-installed Vista package. After reinstalling it from booting stage the problem seems to have disappeared. Cheers |
