mouse pad freezing for regular log-in

I have two log-in's on my Toshiba A105-4324 laptop. One, for me; the second, for guests. No troubles until last night, right after a cat walked over the keypad while I was on the laptop. (house/cat-sitting!)
Now, when I log in as myself, the mouse works for the log-in, but freezes after all regular software loads.
Mouse works fine when I log in as guest. I've rebooted, to no avail. Suggesitons?

once log in , try press and hold fn and press the f9 key
