[SOLVED] HP Pavilion DV6000T won't boot!

I can't figure out what's going on with my computer. About a week ago the quickplay buttons stopped working(not lighting up or anything) then the power button stopped working too. I googled the problem and there was some recall with HP with my series notebook with something to do with the quickplay buttons(or something related to them) being defective. I called to see if they would fix it...they said they would do it for $399. I said no being I only payed $700 for the computer. I think it's pretty bad of them not to fix something they have a recall on(being my computer is the same series and year they are recalling). Anyways I looked to see if there was a loose connection with the ZIF cables from the switch cover(power button board, and led board) and there wasn't. I ordered a new quickplay panel(power button board, led board, and speakers included) and hooked it up today. I turned the computer on and it worked. Then, when I got to the login for Linux the keyboard wasn't typing completely... so I turned the computer off, took the battery out and reconnected the ZIF cable on the keyboard and tried it again. This time I went to power it on and it wouldn't work again! I re-checked the connections again and made sure they were tight and attempted to turn the computer on again and it still wouldn't work. I don't know what's wrong with it... I was thinking maybe the socket for the ZIF cables that go from the mobo to the power button board and the led board might be shorting out the whole panel(aka motherboard problem). It really doesn't make any sense to me... I've tried reconnecting the CMOS battery, checking the connections from the quickplay button board to the mobo... it still won't power up! It's really odd because that first time I tried it it worked! I didn't do anything different the second or third time re-trying it to make it work. I also know it's not me because I've built a laptop before, I've repaired my computer(and other ones) many times before and never had any problems! I always properly ground myself, I always check into instructions when I'm doing something new, I always work in static-safe enviroments... so I'm almost positive it isn't me especially being when I installed the new panel today and connected it up the first time it worked!
Anyone have any ideas on what it could be? I'm going insane here trying to figure this out! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Just in case you haven't tried this yet, remove all sources of power (battery and AC). Press and hold power ON button for 30secs. Put back all sources of power and power ON as usual.

You said your model is part of a recall? I think I have come across a similar announcement but not recall... check this out:

May be your model is covered.

Thanks for the link... This is actually the recall I was referring to. My model(dv6000) is part of he program, but the product number(rx942av) isn't on that list. But the model and year of my notebook match up with the ones theyre recalling.

Re: HP Pavilion DV6000T won't boot!

I think HP would not accept if your model is not in their list of models being covered by the extended warranty. Have you tried calling them up? For sure the symptoms you are getting match the ones on their list.

It could be a motherboard problem but that is hard to rule out if you do not have a working spare. May be strip the laptop down to just LCD, RAM, motherboard and power ON switch. If it boots up/power ON then you know it could be one of the devices you have removed.

I tried calling up a few days ago and they said $399 so I said forget it. I contacted them again tonight via IM and they are looking into it for me about the extended service enhancement. I'm supposed to contact them Monday because they're having server maitenence right now. I'm wondering if maybe this could be a bad CMOS battery problem too? I don't have a spare to check of though. I'm still really wondering if the mobo could be shorting out the power button board though. But anyways I've tried a lot to get this to work... I'm out of ideas though... That's why I started his post. I know my HD ,wifi card, optical drive and ram are all good though. As well as the battery and a/c adapter.

Re: HP Pavilion DV6000T won't boot!

A weak or dead CMOS battery would not have those symptoms AFAIK. Could be a wrong date or BIOS setting changes not saved but not a power on problem.

Hmm... Yeah I don't know what other things it could be. It's very odd. I'm still thinkingit cold be a mobo defect shorting the panel out... But I don't know. I really wish I could just figure this out.

SOLVED! Re: HP Pavilion DV6000T won't boot! SOLVED!

SOLVED!
I replaced the CMOS battery and odd enough, it worked! I'm typing this message on the computer right now. I guess if a CMOS battery gets too weak the computer won't power on. Odd, but a lot nicer then having a motherboard problem
