[SOLVED] HP Pavillion Dv9565 Power Problem
My laptop suddenly decided to slow down and eventually powered off. Before this, items on the desktop (shortcuts) were being offered up to the Recycle Bin without any prompting !
When connected to the internet the screen was flickering and the search panels could not be typed in. I tried a System restore but the same happened so I went for a factory reinstall of Vista Home Premium. This took a few attempts before the computer allowed this to happen. On some occasions the machine would stop and made loud beeps. I eventually bypassed this by pressing the ESC button immediately after reboot. All the above happened whilst it was connected to mains power. I then decided to try it on battery only and I haven't had a problem since (5 hours) It is now on mains and appears ok ! Could it be that the onboard power unit is on the way out or could it be that the power lead is faulty? I should add I unplugged all the mains connections and tried again and all is good. Could it have been a very slight loose connection that has now been corrected ? Not a "techie" so any suggestions are welcome. |

Re: HP Pavillion Dv9565 Power Problem
Hi,
So do you still get the flickering and search panel issues? How about the power problem? Do you still get the beeps during startup? IMO the flickering and search panel issues may not be directly related to the power problem. However the beeps that you get may indicate a hardware problem. Do you get the beeps each time you startup? Do you see any messages on the screen when the beeps happen? What part of startup do the beeps occur (POST, Windows loading, etc.)?

Re: HP Pavillion Dv9565 Power Problem
TriggerFinger
Thanks for replying. I get the beeps during start up with mains power, but not with battery only. The beeps happen post windows loading and I have to hit ESC immediately to let windows start. No message on the screen. I tried another power supply from a friend and all was ok. I can use the computer normally on battery power until it gets to about 30% remaining then whilst surfing problems start i.e flickering, problems typing in search box and items from desk top wanting to visit the Recycle Bin ! All very strange. Any way have ordered a new AC power supply and will report back. |

Re: HP Pavillion Dv9565 Power Problem
Hi,
Is the adapter the one that came with the laptop? If yes, measure the output voltage. Compare what you have measured to the one shown on its label. Sometimes the laptop has a label that shows this too. Are the values the same? Also check power options in Control Panel. Additionally I need you to test/simulate the problem if you are using an external monitor. Post back what you find out.

Re: HP Pavillion Dv9565 Power Problem
I received the new adapter this morning and so far all is well. Can't believe the original caused the problems it did but I am keeping everything crossed that the problem is solved.
Thanks for your replies. |
