Re: Questions

Yes, but it's often difficult to find out what processors will work, or to get a service manual to assist with taking it apart. Always best to email the manufacturer of the laptop, they have the final word on what cpu's are supported by the bios. If it's a dell or an hp/compaq, no problem with the service manual, they are good for that, some of the others aren't so good, some really bad.
What is the make and model of the laptop, exact model number, not just the series. I'll take a look around some, often the only way is to see what others report as working in that particular machine.

Re: Questions

Well. It's a Dell XPS M2010. http://www.dell.com/content/products...=22&l=en&s=dfh
Discontinued, however there is nothing anyone can say to change my mind. I Want it. My Plan is a cheap Refurbished, and then upgrade it.

Re: Questions

Just looking at those few owner reviews on the page you linked, one of them has a T7600 intheirs, that's a decent cpu. I've got a T7400 in my inspiron 9400 and it's been real good to me. That's just the very first, mayber they put a faster processor than that in there, will look around a bit.

Re: Questions

I'll be playing games mostly on it.
So far as I know any processor that fits socket p will work.
But I don't want to get more power than I'll need, so is the
Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T9500 (6M Cache, 2.60 GHz, 800 MHz FSB)
or
Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T7800 (4M Cache, 2.60 GHz, 800 MHz FSB)
too much?
In the mean time I'll E-mail Dell.

Re: Questions

It's looking like the T7600 is as fast as you can go, but that isn't confirmed, just postings in the dell community forums.
What cpu do you have now?
And what graphics, the x1800?
