Cry [SOLVED] Lenovo.....help pls

Hi all,

My daughter had asked me to get rid of the vista OS and load XP instead since the warranty has expired. I was reformatting laptop which is a Lenovo 3000 N100 but it would load the XP OS all the way and kept on getting blue screen error. After consulting a mate(MCSE), I was told it's the dvd burner that was causing the issue "pci.**" error .

So after searching thru ebay I found nothing. I'm just wondering if anyone here would know a compatible dvd burner that will fit/suit this laptop?

Thanking you all in advance

Thanks for that mate, appreciate it very much. I'll ask the seller to find out if they will ship to Australia.

Is there any other brands that might fit???

Btw, when I did a search for GMA-4082N I got heaps found. Some are for HP, Compaq and LG. Would you know if they're the same?

Thanks again mate

EDIT: Just found out that GMA-4082N will fit so I have too many to choose from

Re: Lenovo.....help pls

Only 2 things you need to know to be sure it fits... one is the connector at the back end and other one is the drive door or tray cover.

Re: Lenovo.....help pls

Hi Again,

For some reason when I removed the dvd rom and used my portable cd rom it started loading the OS(diff dics) but the blue screen of death error came up again So for now, I'm not convinced that it's the dvd rom and could be something else. Can some pls explain to me what this error means ?

Re: Lenovo.....help pls

7e usually relates to the h/drive

if you are changing to xp the sata h/drive needs to be set as ide in the bios and maybe a sata driver loaded by f6 during the initial install
lenovo has one of the best if not the best d/load section for their products on their site

Re: Lenovo.....help pls

As I said via F6 (you will see that message at the bottom of the screen) while you do the install. Another way is to use nLite (Google download site). Instruction on how to slipstream the sata drivers can be found here:
http://maxeasyguide.blogspot.com/200...lation-cd.html

Or you can do as what dai has suggested (see quote below). You need to go into BIOS setup to make the changes.

Re: Lenovo.....help pls

Believe it or not but there's not much option I have in the BIOS and this is the first time I came across with such BIOS with very limited options I can do

I'm reading thru that link you gave me and also checking the Lenovo website to find which driver I need.

Thanks for the help so far guys

Limited options in BIOS? Unlike desktops, laptop bios setup seem to be limited (just my impression). Also it can be caused by a supervisor password. You need to enter the supervisor password.

Yes very limited and I do have/know the supervisor password. I can only change time in "MAIN", change the following in "ADVANCE"
Quite boot
Power display
Internal modem
Legacy USB support

change/create password in "SECURITY" and change boot sequence in "BOOT"

That's all, not option to change anything else not like my T43

Oh ok.. lets us forget about that for a moment... let us review what happened may be we are attacking this the wrong way.

You want to install XP instead of the original Vista that came with it, right? So you pop in the XP install CD into the DVD/CD drive. Boot the laptop and make sure it boots from CD/DVD drive (you have set this already in BIOS settings I believe). Installation begins... correct?

At what point of the install do you get a blue screen? Are there any messages like saying there's NO HARD DRIVE FOUND?

Here's what happened. The laptop has vista originally but since the warranty has expired and my wife ended up as the new owner she didn't the vista. Since I haven't installed OS for a while I got too excited and run a WIN98 boot disk using my portable floopy. So I did and fdisk then removed the old partitions and created a new one. Then I pop in the XP install into the dvd/cd drive and yest it was set to boot from dvd/cd drive.

The blue screen comes up after the loadings of all the drivers, etc when its start loading the actual window(OS)

I have deleted the partitioned I just so the HDD is raw.

And I don't get any errors regarding HDD.

Re: Lenovo.....help pls

I hope you do not mind me requesting this... please run PC Doctor. Get it from here http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/si...IGR-65001#disk

You need to create the floppy. Once done run it on your laptop. Make sure you test the RAM (around 2 to 4 hours) and the HDD.

Re: Lenovo.....help pls

Try DBAN. Wipe everything in HDD. If you are using SATA drives follow the nLite suggestion I made some posts back. If you are not using SATA drives, pop in the XP installation CD and begin install. This may ask you to create a partition and format a partition. Make sure you choose NTFS.
