Asus c90S / nVidia 8600 GT / BSOD
This is my first ever attempt at tech support through a forum =)
I have a Velocity Micro c90S (Asus shell) Dual Core X6800 2.93 Ghz 2GB Ram nVidia 8600 GT 512 mb I have sent my computer to the manufacturer for repair and recieved it back with the same problems. They want me to send it again but I'm hoping that the friendly people of this forum can lend me some much needed help. I am currently on a fresh install of Win Vista 32bit home premium. Only drivers updated are the chipset, acpi, Intel nic, all provided by the OEM. I am on the generic video driver because I am fearful to update. I get BSOD's, Random restarts w/o BSOD, 3 or 4 failed windows startups before being able to get back into windows and I also have recieved a blank white screen with a colorful barcode on top. like this.. ![]() Its not like that every time. I already replaced the video card (well the manufacturer did and sent it back still not working right) I get "nvdmm***.sys" "windows display driver timed out" "display driver stopped responding and was reset" ... and "IRQL not less or equal" I've gotten a few other errors but no longer have the files bc I'm on a clean reinstall. Have not recieved problems yet w/ the generic driver. I'm about to install the latest nVidia drivers again. any help would be much appreciated |

Re: Asus c90S / nVidia 8600 GT / BSOD
From the searches Ive done, could be a RAM conflict or device conflict.
Have a go at reseating your ram and any other cards you have, try moving the cards to other slots and see if that helps. Remove all your USB devices and then plug them in one-at-a-time to see if that triggers the problem. Hope this helps

Re: Asus c90S / nVidia 8600 GT / BSOD
Greetings Sethy666
I have used memtest and my c90 just came back from Velocity Micro (VM) after being stressed and memory returned no problems I do not have any devices plugged in except the ac adapter and a wireless mouse which i have disconnected in the past and still have recieved the same problems. I am on my 2nd clean install of vista in 2 weeks. I was able to update all of my drivers and also was able to update all vista updates and eventually SP1. No errors. turned off laptop... slept on it first startup this morning seemed clean.. logged into vista, within 30 seconds i got "display driver failed and has been restored" 10 seconds later the mouse froze... little, tiny, barely noticable glitches appear and then the colors of my display change to a mixxed up water color look. restarted... windows failed to start restarted, logged in, BLUE SCREEN! IRQL not less or equal restarted, Logged in, "NVLDDMKM error" or something like that. I now have minidumps and errors to submit if anyones interested. VM wants me to ship my computer back today so any help would be appreciated.

Re: Asus c90S / nVidia 8600 GT / BSOD
You attached an image of the LCD screen in your first post... do you still have that problem?
Also disable itecir.sys or ITE Tech IR related program from starting up. Check the document on the link: http://www.computerhope.com/cgi-bin/...l?p=itecir.sys May be you can try two options here... one is to update the iTE Tech IR driver or two to just keep it from starting up. Reboot and see if you still get BSOD.

Re: Asus c90S / nVidia 8600 GT / BSOD
Check also in Startup tab of MSCONFIG... make sure there are no related entries there.
In Device Manager, if you have uninstalled it, make sure it does not install back. If it does... DISABLE the device.

Re: Asus c90S / nVidia 8600 GT / BSOD
the ite infared driver has stayed uninstalled.
I enjoyed an error free computer all day until 5 minutes ago. I got home a few mins ago and tried to start my computer on battery power. After a clean startup and logging in... i was idle for 25 seconds and got the frozen mouse pointer and the washed up watercolors on my system. no BSOD computer restarted on its own selected "start normally"... computer started up and logged in.. screen went black.. and restarted automatically with no BSOD. selected "start normally" again and computer started up and logged in successfully w/ no errors. HeLP? |

Re: Asus c90S / nVidia 8600 GT / BSOD
Yes sir... I checked the dumps.
The two dump files point to ITECIR.SYS driver as the culprit. I advised to disable this at startup or uninstall the driver program in ADD/REMOVE. @FiJaY5050, as for the new problems without BSOD make sure your system is NOT set to automatically reboot. Also check in Event viewer for any related messages (just in case). Check minidumps too and attach in your reply. For the meantime please do the update suggest by dai if you have not done so yet. If the freeze happens again with the washed up watercolors on the LCD, get the pattern if it happens during idle (when it is going to or waking from standby). If this is the pattern of the freeze... run Memtest and HDD diagnostics... then run CHKDSK /R.

Re: Asus c90S / nVidia 8600 GT / BSOD
miniupdate:
So far I have only encountered the errors on battery power. I have 2 identical OEM batteries and do not believe they are bad. I have ALL windows updates installed including SP1, seach 4.0, .net update, and all that. in the event viewer I have 4 errors in the last hour, 1,790 total (about 2 days since fresh install) most recent errors are... "Unloading the performance counter strings for service WmiApRpl (WmiApRpl) failed. The first DWORD in the Data section contains the error code." " EventXML param1 WmiApRpl param2 WmiApRpl binaryDataSize 8 binaryData F203000066070000 " #2) "The performance strings in the Performance registry value is corrupted when process Performance extension counter provider. The BaseIndex value from the Performance registry is the first DWORD in the Data section, LastCounter value is the second DWORD in the Data section, and LastHelp value is the third DWORD in the Data section." " EventXML param1 Performance binaryDataSize 16 binaryData 37070000000000000000000015030000 " windows was set to auto restart.. I disabled that feature. I did a complete uninstall of the ITE Driver... and it seems to have stayed uninstalled. Will try to see if i get BSODS or codes. Will try battery power on battery #2 Even though I had restarts... no new minidumps have been created. I really appreciate all this help =D |

Re: Asus c90S / nVidia 8600 GT / BSOD
Try the steps here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937609 and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/300956 Make sure you follow each step. Observe if you still get the freeze. If you still do, go to Event viewer and see any errors during the time freeze happened. Post back with the error.

Re: Asus c90S / nVidia 8600 GT / BSOD
completed http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937609
but the second link's directions instruct me to use the windows CD-Rom. I have a DVD from Velocity micro and the files mentioned do not exist on that dvd... nor does the i386 folder at all. |
