Fast BSoD flash at Windows XP boot, then restart, help?
I'm gonna try to add as much detail as possible.
Recently i figured i wanted to install windows XP on my HP Pavillion dv5. When it loaded the windows installation disc it went to BSoD after it had loaded all the drivers and got to the "Starting windows..." part. So i figured i'd just take the Harddisk into my other laptop, and then install Windows on it, and put it back in my Pavillion dv5. And it installed fine, so it's not a harddisk problem. When i then tried to boot it in my dv5 it just flashed a BSoD and restarted. I did some searching, and some said it was a driver issue if i could boot in safemode. But that dosent work either. Less relevant: Also it's not showing the BSoD when i install Windows 7, and Windows 7 runs fine. You might think thats because Windows 7 moves it's boot files to another partition, but no, cause i moved them to the same partition as the windows 7 installation so that i could encrypt it using truecrypt. I have no idea if this could be the problem or not, but the bios battery looking like this: http://www.technibble.com/articlecon...ve-battery.jpg Keeps falling out. And i tried starting bios without it and it worked? Also i've been trying to put it back in but since a little piece of plastic that was supposed to be holding it fell of then.... Last time i put it in i think it smelled burnt and i saw a little smoke, so i quickly removed it, my pc is still worked but what could have caused it? I'm very sorry for the long post, any help is apprieciated :) |

Re: Fast BSoD flash at Windows XP boot, then restart, help?
Installing XP in another computer and putting back the HDD in your laptop would not work..unless of course they are of the same configuration (exactly the same computer).
Btw, did you try the recovery partition instead of the installation disc? As for the battery you pointed out, it looks like the CMOS battery. AFAIK laptop should still work, but it would not 'save' configuration or changes in BIOS setup if you turn the laptop off.
