Reformat Compaq nx6310 problems

I tried to reformat my hard drive and get the message that folows;
Welcome to Setup.
This portion of the setup program prepares Microsoft<R>
Windows<R> XP to run on your computer
To setup - ENTER
To repair - R
To quit - F3

I press ENTER obviously and the following appears;

Setup did not find any hard drives installed in your computer.

Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program.
Setup cannot continue. To quit Setup, press F3.

I have run the manufacturer-supplied diagnostic program, and everything passed - or succeeded as they put it.

I have tried a repair, I have tried to install, and I have tried the recovery mode in F11, and none of them will see the hard-drive. However, it will still boot into windows - just not log on - it logs on and then logs you right back off.

Any help would be wonderful.

Thanks

May be you need sata or additional hard drive drivers. Usually you can get this from laptop manufacturer website.

Thank you for your help, I found my answer and I had to disable sata in the bios, my next question is do I re-enable it after I have reloaded windows?

You will still need this:

I think it would be good if you enable SATA back and load this driver when you install XP (press F6 during XP installation) or you can use nLite to slipstream this driver with XP installation files.
