cd rom drive won't start

I am running Vista on a Dell Inspiron 1525. It is only a few months old. The CD/DVD drive won't start, per the Device Manager. Computer doesn't show the drive. I have uninstalled the driver and run Scan for Hardware Changes. Still the same result. Can you advise?

hi and welcome you could try uninstalling the device windows should reinstall on reboot

can you see it listed in the bios
