Pavilion dv2550se not booting

Here is the situation:

This damn computer shows that it is charging but it will not boot. I tried all the basic troubleshooting steps like changing the ram and battery, taking out the cd drive and finally I unplugged it and took out the cmos battery and the battery and rebooted with the ac adapter connected but NOT THE BATTERY. That worked but when it turned on the screen was VERY VERY hard to see so I atached it to external monitor and it booted into vista. What should I do? I did try to replace the cmos battery but that didn't help either.

Re: Pavilion dv2550se not booting

Hi,
Some things to try (again) just to clarify on the startup issue...
  1. Boot up with battery attached and AC plugged in (all devices installed including CMOS battery).
  2. Remove battery and boot up with AC plugged in (all devices installed including CMOS battery).

Do 1 & 2 and post the results for each (try with external monitor for each test).

As for the dim LCD, it could be a backlight or inverter problem.

Re: Pavilion dv2550se not booting

I tried that and I tried many other things but nothing worked. I am beginning to think its the power button because the computer will not turn off even if I hold the button for 20 seconds

I agree. It is also worth looking into.

Re: Pavilion dv2550se not booting

Where can I purchase a power button and/or the inverter? Many have told me the reason my lcd is so dark that the CCFL might be out.

Re: Pavilion dv2550se not booting

It is really hard to tell if it is the backlight or the inverter that causes the dim LCD. To answer your question:

CCFL is the backlight. You can get one here:
http://www.lcdparts.net/agnCCFLlamp....FRo-awod03urqQ

Or you can replace the inverter first (easier to replace).

I suggest you get the part number for the power ON switch/panel. Use that as search argument in Google. You can also try eBay.
