Thinkpad Heat Problem

I have an old thinkpad t23 that when I try and run a program or use the internet, it overheats and shuts down. I am running a fan control program that lets me see the temperature and it is stable when just sitting at the desktop but the second I run a program the temperature escalates until it reaches over 90 and shuts down.

This program also lets me turn on the fan to full power and I have replaced the fan, so I know that can't be the issued (actually replaced it twice).

Is there any other part of the heating/cooling system that I'm ignoring?

Re: Thinkpad Heat Problem

When in use make sure vents are not covered (by desk, table cloth, etc...). Also if you have opened it up, may be you need to reapply thermal compound. Lastly (I believe you checked this already), check if vents/heatsink/fan areas are covered/obstructed by dust or pet hair... use a can of compressed air to blow them out (best if you disassemble and clean from the inside).

Re: Thinkpad Heat Problem

I bought and applied some thermal compound and cleaned everything out. It turns on and I can use the internet at a slow pace. Go to a page, wait for it to cool down, etc. I can't move too fast. lol. But if I try and do anything remotely intensive, it will shut down.

Any other suggestions?

Run PC Doctor (get this from IBM support website). There is a PC Doctor for your model (T23). Also I believe there is a release of PC Doctor that you can run from the CD drive.
