Windows can't find HD on Lenovo R61

One of our Lenovo R61i (Type: 4650-8CU) is blue screening. After the blue screen it says that it can't find some file in the Windows\System32 folder. Well, when I pop in a Windows disk to enter the repair module, it says it can't find the hard drive. I know there is a driver out there that is needs to be installed when it asks for the Third Part RAID drivers, but I can't find it anywhere.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try the GUIDED repair procedure documented here:

Re: Windows can't find HD on Lenovo R61

I can't even get the computer to boot into safe mode, I don't understand how I'm supposed to run the file when I can't get access to it.

Maybe I confused you in my original post, I don't know. The computer will turn on, but won't boot into safe mode or normally. I get the error message:
Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
after it fails to boot a few times. I tried to reformat using a windows disk, even tried running a Microsoft Diagnostic and Recovery Toolset disk, but both showed they couldn't find a hard drive at all.

I'm so confused as to how I'm supposed fix this.

Re: Windows can't find HD on Lenovo R61

I apologize but I get this impression that you did not READ the document on the link I provided earlier. It says there to boot using an XP startup floppy or startup disc or XP installation CD... it does not say to boot into SAFE MODE.

Try to follow the steps. If the steps confuse you, post back and we will see what we can do to help... or get a friend who can help or bring it to a repair shop.

Re: Windows can't find HD on Lenovo R61

I downloaded the Guided Help, but I get to the point to where it asks if I am doing it on my computer or on another computer. I put another computer, it tells me to save it to a flash drive and run it from the other computer. That's where me booting into safemode came in. Sorry for the confusion.

I tried to do it manually. I followed the directions. I inserted the Windows XP disk, interrupted normal start up, and ran from the disk. I entered the Recovery Console and I get the blue screen that says:
Setup did not find any hard dis drives installed in your computer.

Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that the disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program.

Setup cannot continue. To quit Setup, press F3.

I encountered this problem once before with a Panasonic Toughbook. I had to go out and find a hard drive driver and install it using the Windows CD as a raid driver. After that, I was able to go in and format the disk. But, until I found that driver, I got the exact same error.

Yes I think you need additional drivers (i.e. sata driver) to be able to continue. Try the Lenovo website for R61.
