laptop info

Can some one help me by telling me what the better laptop processor is between these two :Centrino Core™ 2 Duo Processor T5250 vs Pentium Dual-Core T3400. I won a Toshiba Satellite 300L 07N and I own a Lenovo 3000 Y410 and I just would like to know before I receive the Toshiba which one is faster/better.

Re: laptop info

One has a faster processor but a small L2 cache.

Re: laptop info

They are nearly the same processor multiplied by different factors. If you divide the speed by the clock multiplier, both of them come out to be the same, or at least really really close. The only difference between the two is the clock multiplier and the L2 cache. The Pentium is faster, but has a smaller cache. Because a CPU runs much faster than the rest of the system, the cache stores instructions so the CPU can work on its own while it waits for the rest of the system. So the Pentium is faster, but can't store as many instructions in it's cache than the Centrino. I would say go for the Pentium, but I don't know if those numbers in particular will bottleneck the Pentium, making the Centrino faster. Also, something else to consider is the Pentium is going to run hotter than the Centrino, so if you get it, make sure it is properly cooled.

Re: laptop info

Thanks Mikhalkov! I'm just trying to figure it out as I might sell it (Toshiba Satellite L300) so I can do some upgrades on my other kids computers (desktops) or maybe do some upgrades to the laptop I already have. I might go to Sears and check them out first hand so as I can make a decision whether to keep it or leave it unopened and sell it. I like my Lenovo 3000 Y410 for everything except the speakers absoloutly suck, not sure why they even put a subwoofer on it other than a gimmick.
